A Bright Shadow, de Claudio Cantadori

Avec « A Bright Shadow« , Claudio Cantadori revisite le safari au travers d’une approche graphique en noir et blanc qui révèle le caractère puissant et sauvage des animaux de la savane.
Les clichés deviennent ainsi des portraits, majestueux et esthétisants, qui semblent dévoiler l’âme de leurs sujets.

Une mise en page sobre et un format qui passe du carré au panoramique en double page met vraiment en valeur la personnalité des animaux. Nous avions déjà sélectionné le précédent livre de Claudio Cantadori, Earthlings, mais les variations introduites dans « A Bright Shadow » nous semblaient vraiment intéressantes.

Astrid Hagen, photographe amateur norvégienne auteur du livre Light , nous livres ses conseils sur la création de livre photo:

» Jusqu’à présent, j’ai fait 26 livres en utilisant les services d’auto-édition de Blurb . La plupart de mes livres sont remplis de souvenirs de la vie de tous les jours et d’occasions spéciales, comme notre mariage, un voyage à Paris avec nos amis, la célébration du 40e anniversaire de mariage de mes beaux-parents,..

(Veuillez noter que ces conseils sont proposés par une amateur photo; je suis sûr qu’un professionnel du livre photo vous donnera des conseils différents ).

1°. Choisissez un thème

Faire un livre commence par choisir un thème ou un concept pour votre livre.

2°. Taille du livre

Maintenant, vous devez choisir la bonne taille pour votre livre. Pour les petits livres (jusqu’à 80 pages ) J’aime le format carré , et pour les grands livres (jusqu’à 200-250 pages) , je préfère le format paysage standard.

3°. Organisez vos archives

Le prochain grand travail consiste à trier vos archives photo pour trouver les photos que vous souhaitez inclure dans votre livre. Si vos archives sont en piteux état , ce sera un travail fastidieux … Comme je l’ai mentionné précédemment , je suis une fille organisée , ce travail est donc assez facile pour moi 😉

4°. Choisissez des photos et des Layouts

Le contenu de la plupart des livres photo ci-dessus sont classés par ordre chronologique , ce qui à mon avis rend le processus du livre plus facile. Mais ensuite vient la partie difficile , comment choisir les photos et les mises en page . J’utilise des modèles de layouts fournis dans Blurb BookSmart et je suis satisfaite avec cela. J’aime une mise en page propre et simple, les photos y sont mis en avant.

Je choisis les layouts selon les photos que je veux afficher sur chaque planche , et je choisis très souvent des photos pour chaque style en fonction des couleurs et de la lumière .

Est-ce que çà a un sens pour vous? Je pense que c’est difficile à expliquer, car ce processus est devenu naturel pour moi . Donc, je ne suis pas sûr que je serai en mesure d’expliquer ceci d’une manière compréhensible . Espérons que les exemples ci-dessous vont être un peu utile.

Un lot de photos prises le même jour. J’aime la façon dont elles racontent une histoire de la journée lorsqu’elles sont regroupées comme ça.

C’est une disposition que j’utilise beaucoup dans mes livres annuelles de la vie quotidienne . Les tailles des photos ne sont pas trop petites. Ces photos sont tirées dans le même mois . Je pense qu’elles fonctionnent très bien ensemble comme ça quand il s’agit de lumière et de couleurs.

C’est aussi une mise en page que j’utilise beaucoup . Grand vaut parfois mieux . Au moment de choisir le layout pleine page ( à gauche ) s’assurer qu’il n’y a pas de détails importants où les deux pages se rencontrent.

Au lieu d’une double page pleine, je choisis souvent cette mise en page, avec la bordure blanche autour de l’image . De cette façon, l’image entière est « safe » , si vous comprenez ce que je veux dire.

Comme je le disais , grand est parfois préférable

Parfois, un groupe de photos sont mieux. Lors du choix du layout avec plusieurs photos sur une seule page , j’essaie de garder l’équilibre en ayant une mise en page simple sur l’autre page – idéalement juste une photo en moyen format. «

Light, de Astrid Hagen

Le livre Light, de Astrid Hagen est une série de photographies animées par de superbes reflets naturels de la lumière. Elle réalise ses clichés avec une lumière douce qui métamorphose son intérieur à différents moments de la journée.

Astrid est une photographe amateur Norvégienne, qui aime créer de magnifiques livres sur Blurb. Elle en parle dans notre interview et sur son blog.

WeLovePhoto – Could you tell us more about you as a photographer and your style: what’s your background in photography? When did you start and why? Who are the photographers who inspire you the most? What specific material did you use for this photo set?

I photograph to remember; special occasions and mundane moments. Photography is my way of journaling life. I have no education in photography; I’m just a happy amateur who always carry at least one camera – very often an analogue camera. I got my first camera when I was 10 and I have kept shooting ever since. When I was introduced to Flickr by a friend in May 2005, my love and interest for photography grew and got really serious. I was so inspired by browsing all the photos on Flickr! Leila, Charlotte, Brian, Alice, Rick, Claire and Lars are a few photographers who’s work I really admire.

For my Light book I browsed my archives for photos with lovely light.

Je photographie pour me rappeler, des occasions spéciales et des moments banals. La photographie est ma façon de concevoir la vie.

Je n’ai pas de formation en photographie, je suis juste amateur qui porte au moins toujours un appareil photo – très souvent un appareil analogique. J’ai eu mon premier appareil photo quand j’avais 10 ans et je l’ai toujours gardé depuis. Quand un ami m’a présenté Flickr en mai 2005, mon amour et mon intérêt pour la photographie a grandi et est devenu sérieux. J’ai été tellement inspirée en surfant sur toutes les photos postées sur Flickr! Leila, Charlotte, Brian, Alice, Rick, Claire et Lars sont quelques photographes que j’admire vraiment .

Pour mon livre “ Light ” j’ai parcouru toutes mes archives pour trouver des photos avec une belle lumière.

WeLovePhoto – What’s the inspiration behind the photo set in your book: why did you start this project? What message did you want to convey? What inspired you?

Light. As simple as that. Light is my muse.

WeLovePhoto – Could you tell us about your experience publishing books? What criteria did you use to select pictures and define the structure, etc.? Why self-publishing? What steps would you recommend others follow when creating a new book?

I have made all my books (36 in total; 11 of them publicly available) with Blurb and I’m very happy with the result. I find self-publishing via Blurb easy and fun. Please check this post for my book making tips.

WeLovePhoto – What are your next steps: do you have any future photography or publishing projects in the pipeline?

I love photo projects and I do them all the time. I have recently finished a project called “Darker mornings” that will most likely become a Blurb book. I have also another book planned that will be published in January. I will tell more about it later on my blog.

Quatre Jours au Pays Basque, ma propre expérience de conception du livre photo

Dans cet article, je voudrais vous parler de mon expérience personnelle de conception d’un livre photo, ou plutôt d’un carnet de voyage que j’intitule « Carnet d’Images ».

Tout d’abord, Je vous invite à consulter mon carnet sur le lien suivant : Quatre Jours au Pays Basque.

Le contexte : je suis parti 4 jours avec ma femme Cathy visiter pour la première fois la région Basque en France. Une belle découverte pour nous. Avant de partir, j’avais l’envie de créer un « carnet de voyage » qui synthétisait les meilleurs moments du séjour en images. Impossible d’en faire un véritable livre artistique pour cette si courte durée, mais une sorte de bloc note ou je pouvais afficher mes photos préférées et quelques commentaires personnels. Petite particularité : toutes les photos ont été prises avec mon smartphone, alors que j’ai également réalisé d’autres photos avec mon réflex. Je trouve que c’est plus spontané pour composer un « carnet de voyage ».

Autre particularité : le voyage s’est préparé quelques heures avant le séjour, grâce à notre amie Joelle Verbrugge qui vit dans cette belle région, et qui est photographe : pas mieux comme guide photo !!! Elle m’avait envoyé quelques coordonnées de géolocalisation (GPS via google map). Idéal pour ne pas perdre de temps et localiser les meilleurs « spots photos ».

Le Post Traitement : La grande partie du post-traitement des photos a été réalisé sur place via l’application Instagram en quelques secondes. Choix de traiter les photos de manière un peu « vintage ». Ce qui correspond bien à l’esprit « Carnet de Voyage », « Carnet d’Images ».

La conception du carnet / montage sur Blurb : j’ai très vite réalisé que çà prenait un temps de fou pour choisir la ligne narrative, l’ordre des photos, la mise en scène, le choix des textes, la police de caractère, ….

Tout d’abord, l’intro : je voulais absolument expliquer la démarche du carnet, le contexte du voyage, le choix du type de photo…. donc, d’entrée de jeu, 1 page en début me semble bien.

Ensuite, je me suis rendu compte au moment de la création du livre, qu’il ressortait 2 types d’ambiances de ce séjour en fonction du lieu : La terre et l’océan. Alors qu’au début j’étais parti pour répartir mes photos dans l’ordre chronologique du séjour

==> choix donc de composer 2 chapitres distincts. (ci-dessous : le chapitre 2 pour l’Océan) : Le lecteur a facile à s’y retrouver par rapport aux premières pages du carnet remplies de couleurs dominantes vertes et brunes pour la terre, et rouge pour l’ambiance de la fête des piments à Espelette.

Mais finalement, comment réaliser un « Carnet de Voyage » type vintage?

Voici quelques idées partagées :

1°. le papier quadrillé de fond, fait directement allusion au bloc note. L’envie de créer un mini-album de vacances différents des autres et surtout accessible et simple pour tous.

2°. Le choix de la police pour imiter une écriture manuscrite.

3°. Le traitement des photos sur instagram (cfr. ci-dessus)

Et pour conclure : je considère que c’est une excellente expérience de création de livre. Elle me donne l’envie de créer d’autres carnets de voyages dans le futur, d’en faire une série et évoluer dans mon style de narration. J’espère que cette manière de présenter son voyage, donne l’envie au lecteur de découvrir cette région.

Interview réalisée avec Patrick Nicholas, auteur du magnifique Portfolio Belle que nous vous avons présenté début de cette semaine. (incl. traduction de l’interview)

WeLovePhoto – Vous en tant que photographe et votre style: Quelle est votre expérience en photographie? Quand avez-vous commencé et pourquoi? Qui sont les photographes qui vous inspirent le plus? Quel matériel photo spécifique avez-vous utilisé pour réaliser cette série ?

I started photography while at Art School and later specialised in photography and cinema at university. I started working in the film business after graduation and in fact my first job was as assistant film editor for Ridley Scott. This seemed like a great start but in fact I was fired for running the rushes of Alien upside down! After this I decided to go it on my own as a photographer went to try my luck in Italy in 1982 and I have been here ever since.

J’ai commencé la photographie à l’école d’art et me suis ensuite spécialisé dans la photographie et le cinéma à l’université. J’ai commencé à travailler dans l’industrie du film après l’obtention du diplôme et mon premier emploi a été assistant producteur pour Ridley Scott. Cela semblait être un bon début, mais en fait, j’ai été licencié pour avoir monté les rushes de Alien à l’envers! Après cela, j’ai décidé de me lancer à mon compte en tant que photographe et suis allé tenter ma chance en Italie en 1982, où je suis resté depuis.

I started my own commercial portrait studio and then moved into fashion and then advertising. But I never neglected the more artistic side of photography and in fact started the Belle series back in 1988 and adding to the portfolio ever since – my most recent image was taken a couple of weeks ago. The reason I started the Belle was because a friend entered me into a competition without my knowledge. It was for young painters so I thought that I would re-interpret a famous painting (La Morte de Marat by David) with a touch of irony. After the success of this venture – it won first prize – I continued with the idea although it has developed and changed over the years. One form of evolution is that in the beginning I was a studio photographer so many of the early pictures were taken indoors, whereas now I work mostly in the Italian landscape. That said, I do like to build a set and spend a lot of time researching and looking for the right details and objects to ‘dress’ the set.

J’ai commencé mon propre studio de portrait commercial, puis je me suis orienté vers la mode et de la publicité. Mais je n’ai jamais négligé le côté plus artistique de la photographie et j’ai commencé la série « Belle » en 1988 et continue ce portfolio depuis – mon image la plus récente a été prise il y a quelques semaines. La raison pour laquelle j’ai commencé « Belle » est qu’un ami m’a inscrit à un concours à mon insu. C’était adressé aux jeunes peintres, alors j’ai pensé à ré-interpréter une peinture célèbre (La Morte de Marat de David) avec une pointe d’ironie. Après le succès de cette expérience – j’ai gagné le premier prix – j’ai continué avec cette idée même si elle a évolué au fil des ans. Une des évolutions réside dans le fait qu’au début j’étais photographe de studio, donc nombre de mes premières photos ont été prises à l’intérieur, alors que maintenant, je travaille principalement dans le paysage italien. Ceci dit, j’aime construire une mise en scène et je passe beaucoup de temps à rechercher les bons détails et les bons objets pour habiller la scène.

I am most influenced by the photographer Edward Steichen and the Photo Secessionists, probably because when I was studying he was deeply unfashionable, as were the Pre-Raphaelite painters whom I also admired. I like photographers like Serge Lutens who start carte blanche and build a picture from nothing. I would say that I am more influenced by painters than photographers. This is partly because of my art school background I suppose, but may also be a result of living in Italy where one is surrounded by a lot of art. That said, I do admire advertising photographers most of whom are unknown to the general public, people like David Scheinmann, Nadav Kandar, Andreas Heumann, Giles Revell, and others, some of whom I came across when I was a member of the Association of Photographers in London.

Je suis très influencé par le photographe Edward Steichen et les membres du mouvement Photo–Secession, probablement parce que quand je faisais mes études, il était vraiment démodé, tout comme les peintres pré-raphaélites qui j’admirais aussi. J’aime les photographes comme Serge Lutens qui commencent avec une page blanche et construisent une image à partir de rien. Je dirais que je suis plus influencé par les peintres que les photographes. C’est en partie gràce à mon parcours à l’école des arts, je suppose, mais peut également être dû au fait de vivre en Italie, où l’on est entouré par beaucoup d’art. Cela dit, j’admire les photographes publicitaires dont la plupart sont inconnus du grand public, des gens comme David Scheinmann, Nadav Kandar, Andreas Heumann, Giles Revell, et d’autres que j’ai découvert quand j’étais membre de l’Association des photographes à Londres.

WeLovePhoto – La série de photos dans votre livre: Pourquoi se lancer dans un tel projet ? Quel est votre message à travers ces photos? Votre source d’inspiration?

As I mention above I started more or less by accident and have just carried on. However, I think having a thread running through one’s work definitely helps an artist to pull himself along as it were. Especially in photography where we are in a way handicapped by our closeness to reality. The camera is after all a recording tool in a way that the brush and the pen are not. In the beginning the photographs were ironic twists on famous works of art that most people would recognise and get the joke or at least understand the irony. I could also use the original work of art to show my model (none of whom are professionals by the way and I never pay anyone!) to reassure her and illustrate my ideas. As the Belle developed I found I was more and more often taking the picture first and then looking around for a work of art that was similar. Occasionally my pictures are not related to visual works of art at all, but are inspired by cinema, poetry, music or nature. I am especially interested by the relationship between science, psychology and mythology.

Comme je l’ai mentionné ci-dessus, j’ai commencé plus ou moins par accident et j’ai juste persévéré. Cependant, je pense qu’avoir un fil conducteur aide un artiste à avancer. Surtout dans la photographie où nous sommes en quelque sorte handicapé par notre proximité à la réalité. L’appareil est après tout un outil d’enregistrement, ce qui n’est pas le cas d’un pinceau ou d’un crayon. Au début, les photographies étaient des parodies d’œuvres d’art célèbres et la plupart des gens reconnaissent le subterfuge ou du moins leur ironie. JeJ’ai aussi pu utiliser l’œuvre d’art d’origine pour la présenter à mon modèle (à propos, aucune d’entre-elle n’était professionnelles et je n’ai jamais payé qui que ce soit !) afin de la rassurer et d’illustrer mes idées. Concernant la série « Belle », j’ai trouvé que je prenais de plus en plus souvent d’abord la photo, puis je cherchais ensuite une œuvre d’art qui était semblable. De temps en temps mes photos ne sont pas liées à des œuvres d’art visuel du tout, mais sont inspirées par le cinéma, la poésie, la musique ou la nature. Je suis particulièrement intéressé par la relation entre la science, la psychologie et la mythologie.

WeLovePhoto – Votre expérience du livre: Pourriez-vous s’il vous plaît décrire en quelques mots votre expérience pour créer un livre? Critères de sélection des photos, de construction de l’ouvrage? Pourquoi L’auto-édition? Que recommandez-vous de faire avant de créer un nouveau livre?

My first book was produced by a Neapolitan firm that specialises in wedding albums and was not like a book at all more of an album with some text. Then when someone recommended Blurb in about 2008 I realised that one could make a real book for quite a reasonable price. I had a photography gallery until recently and I found that I could sell the books through the gallery at pretty much cost price – it doesn’t interest me to make a profit on the books, I just don’t want to lose money. I also sell them at exhibitions of my work.

Mon premier livre a été produit par une firme napolitaine qui est spécialisée dans les albums de mariage et n’était pas du tout un livre mais plutôt un album photo avec un peu de texte. Puis quand quelqu’un m’a recommandé Blurb vers 2008, j’ai réalisé que l’on pouvait faire un vrai livre pour un prix très raisonnable. J’avais une galerie photo jusqu’il y a peu, et j’ai trouvé que je pouvais vendre les livres via la galerie aux environs du prix de revient – çà ne m’intéresse pas de faire un profit sur les livres, je veux juste ne pas perdre d’argent. Je les vends également lors de mes expos.

As I take new images I add them to the book, about three or four at a time, take down the old version from Blurb and sell the new. This means that each is a de facto limited edition: I have never sold more than ten copies of one edition. The first edition in 2007 had 22 pictures, the latest has 65. From this point of view self publishing has obvious advantages: the book can be added to regularly, the catalogue is constantly updated and each book is a limited edition which could, if one was well known enough, command high prices – I am still waiting on that one!

Lorsque je prends de nouvelles images, je les ajoute au livre, environ trois ou quatre à la fois, je reprend l’ancienne version sur Blurb et vend la nouvelle. Ceci signifie que chaque livre est de facto, une édition limitée: Je n’ai jamais vendu plus de dix exemplaires d’une édition. La première édition en 2007 avait 22 photos, la dernière en a 65. De ce point de vue, l’auto-édition a des avantages évidents: le livre peut être revu régulièrement, le catalogue est constamment mis à jour et chaque livre est une édition limitée qui pourrait, s’il devient assez connu, engendrer des prix plus élevés- Je l’attends toujours !

I also produce a small pocket sized version as a give away. It has less pictures and I print about 30 copies1 at a time. Blurb give discounts of course for bigger runs. It is worth doing the book in a square format if an author intends to produce different sizes: this way the size can be changed pretty much at the touch of a button, but one cannot go from large landscape format to small square. I often find that my models wish to buy a copy of the book and in this case I may put in an extra picture or two of them taken from the same shoot. This way they have a de-luxe version specially made for them.

Je produis aussi une petite version de poche comme cadeau. Il y a moins de photos et j’en imprime environ 30 copies à la fois. Blurb accorde bien sûr des remises pour des plus grands volumes d’impression. Ca vaut la peine de faire le livre dans un format carré si un auteur a l’intention de produire différentes tailles: de cette façon la taille peut être changée en un peu près un clic, mais on ne peut pas modifier d’un grand format paysage à un petit format carré.

Je constate souvent que mes modèles souhaitent acheter un exemplaire de l’ouvrage et dans ce cas je peux y ajouter 1 ou 2 photos supplémentaires d’elles du même shooting. De cette façon elles ont leur propre version de luxe.

WeLovePhoto – Quelle est la prochaine étape: Quels sont vos prochains projets de photos? Des projets de nouveaux livres?

The Belle book goes on with the addition of about 5 pictures a year. I am in the process of making an ebook version. I also have another Blurb book Tuscia of landscape photos taken in this part of Italy which I hope will move from a self published book to a commercial publisher next year. The publisher saw the Blurb book and wants to do a bigger version with more pictures in both English and Italian.

Le livre « Belle » se poursuit avec l’ajout d’environ 5 photos par an. Je suis en train de faire une version ebook. J’ai aussi un autre livre Blurb « Tuscia » de photos de paysages prises dans cette partie de l’Italie et qui, je l’espère va passer d’un livre auto-édité à un éditeur commercial dès l’année prochaine. L’éditeur a vu le livre Blurb et veut faire une version plus grande avec plus d’images à la fois en anglais et en italien.

Belle de Patrick Nicholas, est un portfolio d’images exceptionnelles que le photographe Patrick Nicholas a démarré depuis 1988. Au départ, l’aventure a commencé par sa participation à un concours adressé à des jeunes peintres. Patrick a pensé à réinterpréter une peinture célèbre (La Morte de Marat) avec une pointe d’ironie. Il a obtenu le premier prix !

Fort inspiré par des œuvres d’arts peintes et par son environnement en Italie ou il vit, Patrick Nicholas persévère dans son style photographique unique, et réalise des portraits de toute beauté.

Interview de Maxime Décarsin, auteur de « La Campagne »

Maxime Décarsin, nous présente son premier livre La Campagne – Une rencontre avec le milieu rural de la Somme.

J’ai commencé à pratiquer la photographie il y a une dizaine d’années environ, avec un bridge que je m’étais offert. Je me suis vite rendu compte que les images servaient à autre chose que le souvenir, alors j’ai commencé à chercher comment les faire « parler » avec plus de conviction. En parallèle de mon activité de musicien et de technicien du spectacle j’ai développé mon esthétique de l’image, amélioré ma technique et cherché ma vision de la photographie.
Je n’ai pas vraiment de référence à proprement parler. Sur le web et les réseaux sociaux je trouve quasiment tous les jours de nouveaux photographes qui me font rêver !
Cependant si je dois en citer quelques-uns il y aurait Thomas Muselet, Alban Henderycks, Kevin Pinardy, Jimmy Nelson…etc.
Pour cette série j’ai utilisé mon matériel habituel. Je travaille sur Pentax K5 monté la plus part du temps d’un Sigma 17-70mm, ainsi qu’un Pentax 55-300mm quand je veux me faire plus discret. J’utilise également un filtre polarisant Hoya PRO1 digital et quelques filtres Cokin gris neutre pour les paysages.

WeLovePhoto – La série de photos dans votre livre: Pourquoi se lancer dans un tel projet ? Quel est votre message à travers ces photos? Votre source d’inspiration?

En fait je ne me suis pas parti faire ce reportage de 4 jours dans l’optique d’en faire un livre. Je n’avais pas d’expérience dans ce domaine et je voulais juste partager mon travail comme je le fais d’habitude sur les réseaux sociaux. Mon but était de rendre hommage à ma terre natale, la Picardie, et à ses habitants, en montrant des images loin des clichés des médias mainstream.
Et puis quand je suis rentré, j’ai regardé ma série dans son ensemble et je me suis dis que ce serait dommage de partager mes images sans y ajouter mon ressenti, mon vécu. Je voulais intégrer une autre dimension à la lecture de l’image, alors l’idée d’anecdotes et de légendes est apparue, l’idée du livre était née !
J’ai toujours aimé le travail que font les grands reporters, les messages forts qui se dégagent de leur travail et l’impact que cela a sur la société. Alors je me suis dis que je pouvais moi aussi, à mon échelle, raconter une histoire et partager mon expérience afin de, peut-être, faire évoluer l’image que les gens ont sur le sujet que j’aurais traité.

Pour la construction du livre, étant donné que je n’avais aucune expérience, j’ai regardé plusieurs ouvrages de reportage photographique dans des domaines variés. J’ai synthétisé sur un brouillon ce qui m’avais plu, que ce soit dans la mise en page, dans la narration ou dans l’articulation des différentes parties du livre, et j’ai commencé une maquette à partir de ces éléments. J’ai rapidement trouvé mes 3 grandes parties (la ferme, le travail, aux alentours) et le reste c’est fait naturellement. Je soumettais régulièrement mon travail à la critique afin de voir ce qui ne fonctionnait pas et ce qui manquait.
J’ai sélectionné les photos les plus parlantes et celles qui s’articulaient le mieux entre elles. Par ailleurs je ne voulais pas garder un style linéaire dans le traitement des images, certaines on un côté vintage, d’autre plus moderne, on y retrouve également des traitements HDR, j’aime bien trouver l’ambiance la plus adaptée à chaque image, celle qui lui donnera sa force.
Pourquoi l’auto-édition ? Hé bien parce-que je n’ai pas encore eu l’occasion de rencontrer un éditeur qui serait intéressé par mon travail !

Cependant ma première démarche était déjà de faire partager mon travail en permettant au public de découvrir mon livre en version numérique.
Que recommandez-vous de faire avant de créer un nouveau livre?
Je n’ai pas vraiment de conseil à donner, ce serait présomptueux de ma part. Cependant si vous voulez mon retour d’expérience, je pense que la préparation est primordiale afin d’éviter l’écueil du sujet traité à moitié ou de manière incomplète. Je ne pense pas que ce soit le cas dans mon livre car même si je ne partais pas dans l’optique d’en faire un, j’avais déjà en tête ce que je voulais montrer au public avant de prendre les clichés, cela m’a beaucoup aidé pour sa construction.

WeLovePhoto – Quelle est la prochaine étape: Quels sont vos prochains projets de photos? Des projets de nouveaux livres?

Ma volonté est de faire voyager les gens à travers mes images, d’attiser leur imaginaire et les inciter à la réflexion. Mes projets photos naissent le plus souvent d’une rencontre, d’une discussion, ou bien après avoir flâner sur le web ou dans une expo, je travaille au feeling et selon mes envies et propose un jour du portrait, un autre des paysages ou encore du travail numérique !
Dans mon carnet de note il y a également un livre sur les habitants des corons miniers du Pas-de-Calais, je vais préparer ça en collaboration avec un journaliste d’un journal local.

Biographie

La photographie, et l’art en général, ont toujours été parties intégrantes de ma vie. Depuis mes premiers appareils photos jetables à mes essais sur reflex pro, en passant par mes formations musicales, j’ai toujours su solliciter et développer ma sensibilité artistique. Faire des études en audiovisuel s’est révélé pour une moi une évidence afin de pouvoir inscrire ma passion pour l’art dans une démarche professionnelle. Fort de mon expérience du milieu du spectacle, j’ai ensuite travaillé pour une société de prestation technique. J’ai pu y développer mes compétences en photographie dans la réalisation de reportages évènementiels. Cette expérience m’a apporté le goût du challenge. J’ai également appris à maîtriser la lumière dans des conditions difficiles, mais aussi à affiner mon rapport à l’humain et le regard que je porte sur lui. En tant que photographe indépendant je cherche maintenant à garder ce contact avec les gens, et je poursuis dans cette voie où chaque rencontre est source d’inspiration et de projets à naître.

Mes intentions artistiques

Par la photographie je cherche à mettre en image ma vision des rapports humains, des sentiments aux dérives sociétales. Je trouve mon inspiration dans des échanges, des rencontres, au cours de vagabondage sur le web, ou bien encore au détour d’une expo. Vivant dans l’ère du temps, j’utilise Photoshop comme catalyseur pour donner force à mes compositions, la où la photographie seule ne peut rendre tout le sens du message. J’aime jouer avec la lumière qu’elle soit artificielle ou naturelle, appréhendée ou maîtrisée. Elle souligne et dirige les éléments à l’intérieur du cadre. Je ne me fixe pas de limites, bien qu’étant réaliste, quant au choix d’une technique ou d’un style. L’important est que la création finale fasse écho en moi à un sentiment, une idée, et reste dans les lignes de la démarche qui est à son origine.

La Campagne de Maxime Décarsin est le fruit d’un reportage photographique dans la campagne picarde, un retour dans sa terre natale. Maxime a passé 4 jours dans la ferme Lion pour y poser son regard, à la recherche d’authenticité du milieu rural de la Somme. Des photos naturelles, un style photographique agréable et plus réel que les images banales de cartes postales: une campagne pleine de vie, typique de la Picardie.

5 raisons d’acheter un livre photo (Chemin(S) de Pierre Schmidt)

A l’heure d’internet et des milliers d’images magnifiques disponibles dans les sites de partages tels que Flickr ou 500px, on peut se demander pourquoi acheter un livre photo. Pourtant, jamais autant de livres photos n’ont été publiés. Paradoxe?

Quoi qu’il en soit, nous pensons fermement qu’il a des raisons d’acheter un livre photo. En voici 5, au travers d’un exemple: en l’occurrence j’ai choisi Chemin(S) de Pierre Schmidt.

1) Ce n’est pas qu’une image fugitivement affichée sur un écran, mais un objet d’art en tant que tel. Auquel on peut recourir autant qu’on veut, sans problème de connexion, batterie ou autre aléa informatique.
